About Troop 623 of Portola Hills, California

Welcome to Troop 623!

Sponsored by American Legion Post 862 of the Saddleback Valley, Troop 623 was founded in March of 2001 with just 8 Scouts.  As a Troop we are progressing and learning together.  We are proud to announce our first two Eagle Scouts, Andrew Spratt and Scott Wooldridge, who earned the coveted title on September 28, 2006.  Since then, we have promoted 51 more Eagle Scouts.  The current members of the Troop are dedicated to making this a great Troop with a strong history, and a bright future!

During the last few years we have had several adventures, including: Spring and Fall Camporee, Lytle Creek backpacking trips, San Jacinto backpacking trip, O'Neill Park campouts, Casper's Park campout, 7-day Summer Camp at Camp Tahquitz and Camp Emerald Bay on Catalina, 5-day camps including volunteer work at Cub Scout Day Camp, Scout-O-Rama, White Water Rafting, Scouting for Food, baseball games, hockey games, Holy Jim Falls hike, Black Star Canyon Falls hike, Santa Cruz Island, Catalina Island, Snow Skiing and snowboarding, Sand Pit - Firearms Range Weekends, USS Midway Scout Overnighter, Midnight Broomball, Service Projects with our American Legion Post, VA Hospital Visits, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Air Show, and many more.  Check out our calendar to see what we are doing next.

We have had Scouts attend the National Jamboree, the National Order of the Arrow Conference, Philmont National Scout Reservation, and we are very proud to have had one of our Scouts selected as one of eight Scouts nationwide to make the Report to the Nation.  Report to the Nation Scouts meet with The President of the United States and many other high ranking government officials while they submit the Boy Scouts of America's annual report to Congress.  This is a great honor and our Scout, Aria Sarraf (Heroism Award Winner), was the first ever from Orange County Council to attend this prestigous event.

The Scouts have made great personal progress too.  Our First Class Emphasis program is designed to enable Scouts to earn the First Class rank by year's end if they are active. Scouts will have the opportunity to earn at least four merit badges by the end of summer camp.  This Troop's program is designed to offer young men the opportunity to advance and learn.  If they take those opportunities and work hard, they will earn many accomplishments.

We are committed to continue forward with a great program where the Scouts learn life skills while having fun outdoors.  I hope that you will join us in reaching our goals and I look forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming Troop Meetings.  Information about our Troop Meetings is posted on our website.
